The Governing body has re-organised itself this term.
Committees have been disbanded and replaced with full governing body meetings.
The full Governing body meets every half term. This ensures that all governors are fully informed about the decisions made and can be more effective in holding the school to account.

About our Governors:

  • Mrs Rowntree - Head Teacher

    I trained to be a teacher in South Africa, after teaching in Kwa-Zulu Natal for 10 years, I moved to the UK in 1996. I have worked in Lewisham, Bexley and Bromley. Over the past 5 years, I have served as a Governor for two schools and have come to understand the role of the Governor in a primary school.

    I am married with 2 grown up children and enjoy sailing in my spare time.

    I look forward to leading Orchard Primary School and working with all stakeholders.

    I am married with two grown up children, I have lived in the local area for the past 34 years. I trained to be a Home Economics and Textiles teacher (now called a technology teacher) in Bath. My teaching career began in 1981 working for ILEA, I also worked at Wilmington Hall School and Bexley Grammar School.
    In 2009 after three years of training I was ordained a priest in the Church of England. I completed my curacy at St. Johns Church, Sidcup- hence my initial link with Orchard Primary School. At present I am the associate Vicar of Christ Church Bexleyheath.
    I have been a governor at this school for the past 5 years.
    It is great pleasure to be able to continue to use my experience in education to work in a school like Orchard Primary School.

    I taught in secondary schools in London for 7 years before moving into further education where I taught for 30 years. In the last 10 years of my career I was programme area leader in administrative and management studies at Lewisham College.
    I am married with 2 adult sons and have lived in Sidcup for 19 years. Both my sons attended Bexley schools.
    When I retired I wanted to stay close to education and was delighted to be appointed as Local Authority governor at Orchard School in 2012. I believe I can make a positive contribution to the educational experience of children attending Orchard School.

  • Mrs Sellick - Co-Opted Governor

    After working for nearly 35 years within local government I took early retirement in September 2015 from Bexley Council. The last 6 of these years were spent managing the central schools meals contract for over 50 primary schools in the borough including Orchard.
    I am married and have lived in Sidcup with my family for the last 22 years. My 2 children have both attended local primary and secondary schools.
    I attend a local church where I assist with a youth club for children in years 3 to 6 and also help with catering for community lunches.
    I became a Co-Opted governor during Autumn term 2015 and I believe with my local authority background and my interest in local education that I can make a positive contribution at Orchard School.

    I joined the school in 2008 as the Breakfast Club & After School provider. I have strong expectations of childcare, standards and their delivery also the services parents should expect to receive. I look forward to this school achieving ‘outstanding’.

    I have a keen interest in mathematics and science and am a qualified chartered accountant and company secretary. My career to date has had a finance bias holding directorships in commercial businesses from RAC and BSM to public sector organisations at Eastbourne Homes and Kemnal Academies Trust. I am also Treasurer for my local church and a Boys Brigade leader.

    I live locally in Sidcup and our 3 children have all received either primary or secondary schooling in the borough. I believe that education plays a vital role in unlocking the potential of our children. .

  • Mr Cowley - Staff Governor

    I joined Orchard Primary School in September 2013 as Deputy Headteacher and I have taught classes through the school in that time. I currently serve as staff governor, a role I also fulfilled at my previous school. Among my responsibilities are leading on assessment, computing, French and behaviour management, all areas of education for which I have a particular passion and enthusiasm. I lead on our values curriculum, believing values and authenticity are at the core of all our actions and decisions. I am especially dedicated to and vocal about the subject of staff and pupil wellbeing.

    The role of governors has changed significantly over the years with the growing importance of the part governor’s play in setting the strategic direction of the school, ensuring correct financial management and providing challenge to the leadership team.

    It is my vision to work with the governing body to ensure Orchard Primary School, through a whole school approach, creates an equal opportunity for all our children to be successful and enthusiastic lifelong learners.

    I am an administration manager working in Hawley near Dartford. I studied at Wilmington Grammar School for Boys before attending the University of Essex, graduating in 2010 with a degree in Politics. I always loved my time at school, and I bring this enthusiasm for learning with me into my role as a governor.

    I have been associated with the school for eight years through the after school club. I am the specialist governor for Science. For 38 years I have worked in the banking industry. My grandchildren attend Orchard Primary, and I volunteer within school on a regular basis to help the classes with the cooking curriculum.

  • Mr Miller - Parent Governor

    I am a parent governor with two children at the school and I have lived in the area for 15 years. Currently, I work within the local government which is a position I have held for 29 years. I am also, a martial arts instructor (karate black belt).My role is as special interest governor for history and geography.

    I am a co-opted governor, working for a financial services firm in the City of London and training to be a chartered financial analyst. I grew up in Sidcup, attending Our Lady of the Rosary Primary and Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School before attaining my undergraduate degree from Oxford University in Classics.

    I have a strong interest in educational policy and politics and am also a keen sportswoman, rowing competitively in my spare time. I fully believe in encouraging high ambition in state education and look to direct this enthusiasm, as well my enthusiasm for sport, into school governance. In particular, I will have responsibility for monitoring the school’s spending of sport’s premium.

    I am a Library manager, with over 17 years experience in Further and Higher Education.
    During my career I’ve worked with students from diverse backgrounds and have always enjoyed supporting them with their learning.
    I am proud of the services Libraries offer and have dedicated my professional career to improving these services so that they impact positively on all students and their potential for learning.

    I believe education and social mobility should go hand in hand and everyone should have access to education and have equal access to the support available to help them achieve their dreams!

    I am married with a daughter in Orchard School reception and a 6 month old daughter in a local nursery. I have lived in Sidcup, a short walk from Orchard Primary School, since 2015. I trained as a furniture and product designer at Kingston University, graduating in the year 2000. Since then have run, and co run, two creative design business’s.

    I look forward to sharing my creative and problem solving skills and experience to assist the school, and the education of the students, in any way possible.

During the 2015/2016 academic year we were required to reconstitute our governing body, which involved reducing the number of staff and parent governors hence the large number of resignations from the Governing Body.
